Laboratory Structured Packing

Laboratory Structured Packing is specially designed for small laboratory column diameters. It is of great use for distillation of components that are prone to decomposition. These ensure a small pressure drop while having the highest possible number of theoretical stages. It has very high separation efficiency even at low pressure drop.

Different types of laboratory packing :

  • Type EX : Even with very liquid loading, it has highest possible number of theoretical stages
  • Type DX : With a coarser structure, this packing provides a lower number of theoretical stages

Wire Gauze Structured Packing

Wire Gauze Structured Packing consists of an excellent arrangement of wire mesh pieces pressed into corrugation. It continuously spreads thin liquid films across the tower as liquid passes through the packing. This type of structured packing ensures maximum exposure between liquid and vapor phase due to its capillary action and high surface areas. Further, it results in high mass transfer efficiency. Widely used in normal pressure distillation vacuum distillation and absorption processes where particles are thermal sensitive, this packing ensures high separation efficiency even at very small liquid loads.

Vane Pack

The Vane Pack is widely used for the for high-capacity, high-efficiency and low-cost liquid separation of liquid droplets from a gas stream. These are made by several layers of corrugated plates interlinked at regular space by spacers. These packs are designed to effectively handle large liquid slugs and also can be customized for 3-phase separation.

Operation principle :

  • In a gas stream, liquid particles enter the pack with more inertia as compared to gas molecules
  • Due to the presence of vane pack, there is a change of direction
  • In result, droplets wet themselves and gather in the corrugations for a sufficient size to drop by their own weight
